Fired Bill Carmody: That win helps

That win helps

yesterday's comeback victory over Minnesota is a great step towards an earning an NIT home game or two, which, in case you haven't been paying attention, is the best result NU can hope for this season. i was surprised to see Northwestern listed as an 8 seed here, but it's worth mentioning that down the stretch last year this site predicted NU as a 5 or 6 seed, so they're not completely clueless.

while i'm terrified of the Wildcats' trip to State College in two weeks, i think they should be able to handle things on Wednesday at home against Penn State. it would be nice if they could put together a complete game before they head into the Kohl Center next Sunday.

also - supposedly a student was ejected from the game for heckling Ed Hightower. my jealousy of that accomplishment is off the charts. if anyone knows what he/she said, please tell me.

As the fan in question (note: not a student), I have to say that no, it was not Hightower who tossed me, but Curtis Shaw instead. I was riding the refs all game, and after the play with a minute to go when Hightower claimed Luka fought through 2 Gopher players to knock the ball out of bounds (ha!), there was a timeout. At this point, Shaw looked at me while I was yelling, at which point I yelled "You're a joke" twice. Apparently that was enough for his thin skin to toss me and another older guy out. If you do a search for his name, you'll find that he kicked Alabama students out at a game earlier this season and has also ejected the Rice Owl in the past.

my bad on the student assumption. it was Teddy Greenstein's article that mentioned Hightower, so i appreciate the clarification.

sorry you missed the end of the game, but excellent work in getting on the refs and helping to give WR Arena at least something of a home court advantage.

I beg to differ: if we somehow knock off Wisconsin on the road (unlikely but possible) we'll be right back in the discussion. Looking past Penn State to that game is not a good idea, though. They always give us trouble, though I expect we'll beat them at home.
